Two Weeks and Counting

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 at 9:35 am

Very little time is left until Kari and I head up to Wisconsin. We’ve had a slight change of plans on how we’re going to get there. Originally we were just going to pack up everything and move it all in one shot, but that seems like a huge deal, having a 17′ Uhaul and all. On top of that having my car towed behind it and Kari driving seperate.

So what we’ve planned on now is we’re driving up there with both our cars and the dog, stay the night and then take a one-way flight back and then pick up the Uhaul and pack everything and drive up there together with that. Kari and I both think it will be a lot less stressful if it’s done this way. We may even save some money, but we’re not sure how much gas is going to cost.

We have most of the apartment packed already. Most of the stuff we don’t really use is boxed up and the remaining things we’ll pack up when we get back here after the first drive up there. I still have quite a bit of stuff to do, like changing all my billing addresses, and making sure everything is taken care of before we leave. I should probably get my car checked out, to make sure it’ll make it all the way up there.

It’s crazy to think that I will no longer be living in Florida. No more hot and humid afternoons for almost 9 months out of the year. Now it’ll be cold for 9 months of the year and warm for only the summer. I’m going to have to find a new job, and new friends.. and holy crap…. I’ve never moved away before..

Stopping the Big Giveaway- by John Kerry

Here’s a link to a guest blog by Senator John Kerry for Savetheinternet.com.

He discusses how we still need to fight to win against the politicians who wish to take away our Net Neutrality.

Save the internet?!

Monday, June 12th, 2006 at 9:48 am

I’ve heard it in the past, but never really payed much attention to it. I’m talking about Network Neutality.

Basically, it boils down to the large cable/phone providers (SBC, Comcast, Verizon) that want to control how WE USE THE INTERNET! They’re lobbying congress with millions of dollars so they can pick and choose which sites we can visit and how much bandwidth we get to have!

If for instance, Verizon creates an alternative to Google, they can block Google on their end for every single subscriber and basically force you to use their service. What kind of shit is that?!

I urge you to please, contact your congress-persons. Call, write, blog!
Goto http://savetheinternet.com , http://moveon.org and petition!

Convert your Docs to PDF

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006 at 10:25 pm

While working on my resume’ this evening, and then wondering how I could convert it to PDF since Microsoft doesn’t have this ability, I found a pretty neat site that will do it for me. It allowed me to convert my .doc file to .pdf on the fly, and it’s emailed to me. Just wish it was downloadable instead. It’s able to handle a variety of other formats as well, including RTF, XLS, PPT, PPS, HTML, PUB and even all the common image formats.

There’s even a program you can download for a free trial. Downside to that is it watermarks your pdf with their logo. I think I’ll just stick with their free web service.
